All About cannabis Pollen

Pollen is something that a lot of cannabis growers stay away from, but if you’re looking to use this to preserve certain genetics, or create your own strains, it’s something that is vital. Here, we’ll discuss what it is, and how to use this.

What is it?

This is basically a powdery, yellow hued compound that comes from every single plant that flowers. The goal of this, is to fertilize other plants, to help perpetuate the species, and t’s something that’s useful, depending on the circumstance. This is something that gets released in the pollen sacs when male plants become mature, and the sacs end up opening up, releasing this pollen.  It then goes via the wind to the female, fertilizing this plant, and then, it carries the genetics of the future species, perpetuating this as well.

Pollen is something that comes not just from the male plant, s but hermaphrodite plants also may also have this show up too.

Is this useful?

This is something that’s popular if you want to use it to grow different plants, however, the female plants are better, since they’re what create the trichomes and buds that you use to smoke and use weed. Female kinds of buds also come with different compounds that are active, including THC and CBD, but the female plant is also the only one to create the resins, and it’s something that only happens when she’s not fertilized.

So if you’re ea hobby grower, you may not want a male pant, and usually, I they show up, they get removed, and the male plants are really only there to release the pollen in order to fertilize the female plants. But once they get fertilized, you can say goodbye to the yields that are there.

So when a female gets fertilized the seeds are made, and that does impact the taste, making it harsh and not desirable. It also takes more energy away from creating what people want in their cannabis plants, the cannabinoids and the terpenes that are there. However, pollen is still necessary, and if you want to keep certain strains, you should at least keep some of the pollen there, and also consider the fertilization of the female plant.

How to use this

The precision and planning of this are necessary to create crossbred strains that utilize pollen. The pollen is usually carried, but those that grow it indoors or want to only pollinate certain plants can gather the pollen directly from the male plant, put this in the reproductive parts of the female plant, and then create seeds as well.

To harvest this, you want to collect this directly from the plant, and you want to use this immediately so that the quality doesn’t degrade. Once the male plant has the pollen sacs, monitor them, and then 2-3 days collect this. When they start to open, you should see that the sacs are bagged and collected, and you should take the whole cluster of male flowers, so that you can squeeze and shake I to further collect the pollen.

Filter this, and then put it on some paper that’s shaded, dried, and warm.  Let it sit out to dry for about 48 hours, and then use the pollen, or store this.  You want to make sure that it’s not super warm, and only moderately humid.  You can then store this in a container to use in the future, and once you’re ready to use it, just put it directly on the female plant of your choice. Pollen isn’t always bad, and here, we went over uses of such.
